■ The Origin

Junko Takahashi |
|
"For underprivileged children in the
world..." JUNKO Association was organized by a woman's
hope.
Takahashi Junko, who was a junior in college, was studying about
an economic development in Southeast Asia in her seminar. She
took a trip to Vietnam in summer, and felt local people's kindness.
Then she faced to poverty of developing country, and went home
feeling that she'd like to help underprivileged children in
Vietnam. When she wrote a paper about that experience and just
about to think of second trip to Vietnam, she was in traffic
accident and passed away. It was December. Her parents offered
her reserve fund and koden (monetary offerings to the departed
soul) for her wish. In order to be left her wish in Vietnam
for a long time, and for children's smile in Vietnam, in September
1995 an elementary school was rebuilt nicely in Dien phuoc Village
in the Province of Quan Nam which is near the central city,
Da Nang, by the fund and money which JUNKO Association started
by fellows of Ebashi seminar collected. The village named this
school "JUNKO SCHOOL" showing their gratitude.
JUNKO Association, which reaches the 10th anniversary in 2005,
became NGO(Non Government Organization)associating with Vietnam
and Myanmar, and it'll be more active from now on. |
